The Beta Tape was one of the most prominent forms of videocassette formats available for home and professional video production. Beta Tapes declined significantly in the 1980s as the VHS format became extremely popular, and the Betamax VCR stopped being made in 2002. However, many people still have irreplaceable home movies or professional videos on Beta Tapes, with no way to view them or keep them from degrading over time. These can be transferred to DVDs using an SDI connection, or Serial Digital Interface. These types of connectors are used to transmit uncompressed and unencrypted digital video signals. These connections carry audio and video, as well as additional information and closed captions.
