The movie Hope is the latest project from Azure Production and CC Films, starring Mindy Eklove and Chris Public. The 10-minute short action thriller is produced and directed by Caine Chow.
The short film follows two characters in a suspenseful race against time to get to safety once the planet Earth is no longer habitable because all of its natural resources have been used up.
The pair, Simon and Hailey, literally have a ticket off the planet – they just have to get there first. The film shows the viewer a snapshot of the final leg of this journey, as Simon and Hailey rush to the safety of a spaceship while their city crumbles around them. Simon and Hailey encounter more than one dangerous stumbling block along the way, and subtle twists throughout tug at the heartstrings of any viewer, making them root for the characters.
The film’s setting truly looks like a different world and the convincing special effects do a fantastic job at turning the city of Toronto, where it was filmed, into a desolate and eerie wasteland that looks like a city barely recognizable as our own.
The delicate score is also quite effective at carrying the narrative of the film, which feels much more human than science-fiction, and the end message of the film should hit home with anyone who watches it.
