Are you thinking of being a video editor? As an editor working on corporate client projects and personal films for many years, there are a few things that an editor must have while editing a project, whether it be your family video, client video or film, you should have these:
1) Sound Effects Library – Today, you can do a simple search online to get what you want. Even on YouTube, you can now find great sounds people have put together. Most of the searches that come up online will need you to purchase a license in order to use it. Over the years of editing, your personal sound effects library will start to grow.
2) Score – I don’t really have this as a library, because music for a project changes depending on what you’re working on. You also don’t want to use the same music you used for a previous project. That is why I normally look for music as per project. There are a few websites I recommend for low budget work. www.jamendo.com & http://audiojungle.net.
3) Good Selection of Fonts – Self explanatory. There are a few websites that offer free font downloads, like this one. You want a font that matches your project. Not all of them should have a “Times Roman Numeral” look!
4 (Optional) Visual Effects Library – This is more for people that are doing short films, sometimes you need to add in effects but you don’t have time to film them, or the equipment needed to make it happen. The effects from Video Copilot Actions Essentials 2 are worth mentioning, they are very easy to use and are pre-keyed. You can simply drop them into the After Effects timeline and make a few adjustments then render them out. Great simple FX to help push your film to the next level!
Keep editing!
